Flyball

Flyball is a team sport consisting of 4 dogs and 4 people per team. Each dog takes a turn racing over a set of four hurdles to a spring activated box, which must be triggered by the dog to release a tennis ball. The dog then races over the same four hurdles with the ball back to the handler and then the next dogs goes. The next dog cannot start until the previous dog has finished, similar to a relay race. Its like an extreme game of fetch! You are racing against the clock for points that you accumulate to earn titles, but you are also racing along side another team for wins.

Sammy and Barley are no longer actively competing in flyball, but when we were we ran with Fast Fourward Flyball team here in San Diego. You can take a look at the team webpage by going to www.flyball.com/fastfourward. We started competing in flyball in the Summer of 2006 and had our last tournament at the beginning of 2008. We hope to return to the sport sometime in the future. Barley's best time is 4.7 seconds as the start dog, Sammy's best time is 4.9 seconds as the start dog. They both ran consistently in the low 5s at almost any jump height.
