Ben
Golden Retriever
Ben is Sammy and Barley's Dad
Description is written by Jenny (Ben's Owner)
Well, I do not know much about Ben's parents because I never saw them. Ben was a surprise Christmas gift to me from Matt.
We lived in Jacksonville, FL at the time, but Ben flew in from South Dakota, where my mom lived at the time. She bought him from,
I don't know who or where. I just know that the first time I saw him, I thought he was a chow! His coat was that wavy - hey, what
a girl would give to have body/volume in her hair like he did! Anyway, so Ben was our 'first kid' and was a great great puppy.
From day one, he loved the beach. The first time we ever took him to the beach, after playing in the water and running around,
as we were leaving, he dug up a seashell and carried it all the way back to the car. Matt and I saw him dig it up and play with
it, but didn't know he had hidden it in his mouth until he dropped it at the car door. We still have the seashell. Now, whenever
we go to the beach, he just runs around with his tennis ball in his mouth, occasionally dropping it so he can swap it with some
other dog's toy - he's like the kid on the playground that always wants the other kids' toys! I don't know what traumatic experience
he had that has made him to be the scaredy-cat that he is, but we still love him. Just the other day, he was barking at our front
door - barking his mean "intruder-type" bark. Suddenly the wind blew our outside door shut and it scared the heck out of Ben!
He couldn't get away fast enough! It was hilarious! He's got a mean bark when he is being protective, but just don't scare
him or his "watch dog" abilities go out the window! He LOVES LOVES LOVES attention - when I'm on the computer, he'll come rest
his head right next to the mouse pad, or sometimes he'll just nudge his way under my arm, or other times, he'll just lay down
on the floor next to me, which has to be much less comfortable than his dog bed in my bedroom. He's very loyal and will do
just about anything you tell or ask him to.
